On Saturday, April 29, nearly 200 members of the Nathan Smith Davis Society at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine came together to mingle, celebrate, and be recognized for their commitment to the medical school. The reception took place at the Arts Club of Chicago and honored those who provide critical support for the growth, excellence, and competitiveness of the medical school. The Nathan Smith Davis Society acknowledges and celebrates both monetary gifts and volunteer service to Feinberg.
“This is one of our favorite events,” said Alan Krensky, MD, executive for Development at Northwestern Medicine and vice dean for Development and Alumni Relations at Feinberg. “It gives us the opportunity to thank you in person for your commitment to our medical school, for your generous philanthropy, and for your volunteerism.”
The Nathan Smith Davis Society is currently over 2,000 members strong, including alumni, faculty, staff, and many friends of the medical school.
“Every day I am so impressed by the hard work and remarkable achievements of my colleagues here at Northwestern,” said Jonathan B. Strauss, MD, MBA, assistant professor of Radiation Oncology at Feinberg, who is a new member of the Davis Society this year. “The Davis Society Reception was a fun way to meet other people who share my passion for Northwestern and the great work that happens here.”
The society is named for Dr. Nathan Smith Davis, one of the founders of Northwestern’s medical school, its first dean, and a pioneer in medical education. Dr. Davis advocated for higher standards in the training of physicians as well as in the medical profession. He founded the American Medical Association, served as its first president, and was the first editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Krensky continued, "More than ever, every member of the Davis Society is integral to our bold aspirations for the future, and to our recent achievements at the medical school. I know that Dr. Nathan Smith Davis would be proud of our members and how we perpetuate his name through the society.”
Members of the Feinberg Student Senate were in attendance to share their experiences as medical students, and to express their gratitude for support received from Davis Society Members.
“Your partnership has been, and continues to be essential during We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern Medicine,” Dr. Krensky shared. “We just recently surpassed the $1.5 billion mark in the campaign thanks to you and your incredible support.”
