Scapula fractures are uncommon, accounting for only about 1% of fractures.  The most common scapula fractures occur to the body and spine of the scapula (50%), followed by the neck (25%), glenoid (10%), and acromion and coracoid (<10%).

     Associated injuries are common, seen in up to 80-95% of cases, and include pulmonary contusion, pneumothorax, shoulder dislocation, brachial plexus injury, axillary artery injury, splenic injury, head injury, and fractures of the clavicle, ribs, skull, and humerus.
