Femoral Neck Fracture

History and Physical Exam

The symptoms seen with femoral neck fractures vary based on the severity of the fracture.  Pain may be reported in the:

  • groin
  • thigh
  • knee

There may be inability to stand, but patients who have sustained a fracture without displacement may walk with some limping rather than being completely unable to bear weight

In patients with displaced fractures the extremity is often shortened, in slight external rotation, and abducted with severe pain and inability to ambulate.
