Acetabular fracture (disruption of iliopectineal line)

ED Management

Classification and management of acetabulum fractures should be delayed until after other more serious traumatic injuries have been managed.  There are many different patterns of acetabular fractures so management decisions must be made by the orthopedist.  Some fractures may be non operative, while many are managed surgically.  Skeletal traction may be used in non operative patients or before surgery.  The ideal time for surgery is 2-10 days after injury – this delay decreases intraoperative bleeding.
