Femoral Shaft Fracture 


Background
      Femoral shaft fractures are an orthopedic emergency.  They are generally caused by high-energy forces and are often associated with multisystem trauma. Up to 40% of isolated femoral shaft injuries will require transfusion due to bleeding into the thigh.
