Fracture of the 5th Metatarsal

This is an example of a Jones fracture. Note the distance from the base of the 5th metatarsal. This fracture should be immobilized with a post mold and the patient should be told the injury is non-weight bearing. Early orthopedic consultation is essential.

This is an example of a fracture at the base of the 5th metatarsal, or a "pseudo-Jones" fracture. This is a weight-bearing as tolerated injury if in a walking cast or stiff shoe, but still requires orthopedic follow-up.

Here is another example of a diaphyseal injury to the 5th metatarsal, or Jones fracture. Note again the distance from the base of the 5th metatarsal.
