Julie Cooper attended Duke University where she earned her bachelor of science in Psychology. Her undergraduate research in neuroscience focused on the role of the limbic system in the processing of emotional stimuli and yielded three publications in neuropsychology journals. As a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania, she conducted research in the emergency department to derive a decision rule for utilization of chest x-ray at triage to diagnose pneumonia. She was awarded an Alliance Medical Education Scholarship by the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the William T. Fitts Jr. Memorial Prize for Trauma Surgery, and the Emergency Medicine Research Award. As a resident, Julie has pursued an interest in international medicine through several medical volunteer trips to Central America. Her academic pursuits have focused on emergency department operations through the Administration College. A native of Philadelphia, she is an avid runner and has taken full advantage of the flat terrain in Chicago.
