Overview
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine continues to the development of global emergency medicine. The Department engages in global health activities in research, education and the practice of international emergency healthcare through collaborations with the Center for Global Health and other academic organizations.
Northwestern Emergency Medicine is proud of the faculty and resident contributions this year from Drs. Jennifer L. Chan, Martin J. Lucenti, Rahul K. Khare, Daniel M. Courtney, Demetrios N. Kyriacou and residents Matt Lazio (NU EM ‘10), Jon Van Roo (NU EM ‘10) and Manish Asaravala (NU EM ’10)
Recent Activities-2010 Haiti Earthquake & Humanitarian Response
Five faculty physicians responded to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake in 2010 as part of a unprecedented city-wide collaborative response to one of the largest humanitarian emergency in recent history. As this report went to press, May 7, 2010, Dr. Courtney was the latest EM physician to begin a two-week Haiti relief assignment through the International Medical Corps.
The department also congratulates the work of Dr. Chan, our EM Haiti relief faculty, the Northwestern Center for Global Health and other Chicagoland colleagues for being recognized by the Institute of Medicine of Chicago (IOMC) for their post Haiti Earthquake efforts with theHumanitarian Global Health Award. The award is given to a Chicago metropolitan area individual or organization that has provided voluntary, longstanding, and international humanitarian health services.
