Dr. Courtney has also initiated a study of neutropenic fever evaluation in the ED.  This study is evaluating clinical characteristics, outcomes, and ED costs of care associated with patients who have severely low white blood cell counts and fever who present to the ED. These patients are at risk for serious infections and their care in the ED has previously been not thoroughly studied. The study provides Dr. Courtney with a useful vehicle for instructing residents and pre-medical students in research methods and design.
