IMPAACT trial stands for Improving antibiotic use in acute care therapy. It is a multicentered, AHRQ funded study, starting its third year. Northwestern Memorial Hospital was ranomized as an intervention site providing the informational/interactive kiosk in the waiting room for patients, as well as educational posters and handouts in the exam rooms. In addition, basic education is provided to residents and staff concerning the latest recommendations for antibiotic use. The goal is to optimize patient care by limiitng the inappropriate expectations and use of antibiotics. This maximizes the benefits of antibiotics while minimizing the potential dangers inherent in widespread use. |
