The main emphasis of this research project is to study the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective emergency medical care that leads to best patient care practices at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Specific quality measures and outcomes data are used to assess and monitor the effectiveness of clinical and educational interventions. The primary goal of this research project is to conduct highly focused studies of important clinical and educational emergency medicine questions to provide optimum quality care to Northwestern Memorial Hospital patients. The secondary goals of this project include the following: (1) to develop the preliminary findings of these studies into future grant applications that will provide future extramural funding for the Department of Emergency Medicine; (2) to provide hands-on research training for junior faculty, residents, interns, and medical students; and (3) to develop collaborative research relationships with several divisions and departments within the Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
