To review anesthetic management topics through the discussion of complex clinical cases. The focus will be to refine the residents' clinical judgment and become more prepared for the oral board examination. Approximately 30 times per year (Fridays, 7-8 AM) Faculty from each clinical division present interesting and challenging cases. Residents are provided a clinical scenario (stem) in advance. Some presenters define clear learning objectives prior to grand rounds; others maintain ambiguity for the purpose of more realistic development of the discussion. Residents should read clinical stems and accompanying article, if provided, the preceding night. Residents will be asked a broad range of questions from basic to complex clinical science and must defend their clinical decisions in front of the faculty and residents.
To become updated on recent advances in the anesthesiology literature and develop the skills to critique scientific and statistical methods for life-long learning 6 times per year (Fridays, 7-8 AM) Faculty-led discussion of a recent or classic journal article Residents should critically read the article provided in advance and be prepared to field questions on basic or clinical science subject matter, study design and statistical methods. A subset of residents will be evaluated on their written critique of the journal article using a structured scoring system.
