Letter from Co-Chief Resident Angie Cambic, MD

Why did I choose Northwestern? There were several points that I considered when choosing Northwestern and that have proven true: high volume and great diversity of cases, dedicated teaching, and a supportive environment. Residency is the time to take the knowledge you learned in the classroom and not only apply the knoweldge but also hone the skills you will use for the rest of your career. Paramount to this step is choosing a program that will refine what you have already learned and progress your education to the next level with a high volume of varied cases while never sacrificing education. While being an academic institution, with its focus on education, Northwestern has a private feel that teaches efficiency, making you comfortable with any future endeavor.

Northwestern is well rounded in every field, particularly in obstetrics, pediatrics and neurosurgery. I like the fact that the anesthesiology department is always searching for new ways to improve the resident experience, never resting on its laurels. The supportive approach and care towards residents' experiences by the Chair and Program Director along with other leaders in the administration made Northwestern the right choice for me.  Research is very accessible and there is elective time that can be dedicated to it though not a requirement if your interests do not lie in research. The formal education is also an attractive aspect of Northwestern. The CA-1 lectures on Tuesday mornings are so good that residents from all of the years attend; we also have dynamic simulation sessions every other week, interspersed with the Chair's report, in which we discuss interesting cases and different ways to handle anesthetics among other lectures.

Bottom line, having chosen Northwestern's program, you receive a nationally recognized education that allows you to have your pick of fellowships and private practices.
