Before students enter academic programs, the University requires that all students provide the Student Health Service with 1) a completed Admission Health Record form; 2) proof of tuberculosis screening; and 3) immunity to measles, rubella, mumps, and tetanus/diphtheria. In addition, Feinberg students must undergo vaccination against hepatitis B. This series can be completed after enrollment. Details of this program are given to students shortly after enrollment. All medical students are required to carry hospitalization insurance, either through a personal or family policy or via the University’s program. The student premiums range from $1,896-2,664 per year (with additional fees for spouse and dependents). The Northwestern hospitalization plan covers the costs of most outpatient services. The University has established a Student Health Service on the Chicago campus that contracts with the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation (NMFF)—the group practice of full-time School of Medicine faculty. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.
Saturday, 8 a.m.–12 p.m.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 312/695-8134. The clinic does not accept walk-ins, but does try to accommodate same-day appointments for urgent care. Questions pertaining to student health issues should be directed to Linda Daniels in the Office of Student Programs and Professional Development at (312/503-0434, l-daniels2@northwestern.edu). When the facility is closed, students in need of medical assistance can call 312/695-8134 and ask for the Student Health physician on call. Urgent care assistance is provided in the NMH Emergency Room (Feinberg Pavilion, 251 East Huron Street, first floor). A full range of consultation services (by referral) is provided by NMFF, the medical center, and Student Health Service. Gynecologic examinations, birth control and pregnancy counseling are eligible services. |
