CRITICAL CARE CLERKSHIP

Clerkship organization

For half of this rotation a maximum of 10 students (half of the group) rotate on clinical services where they are responsible for patient care, case presentations, documentation, designated procedures and the gathering and reading of pertinent literature.  They are an integral part of the medical/surgical team under the direct supervision of residents, fellows and attending intensivists.This group works with an ICU team each day.  There is an expectation to take overnight call every fourth night (i.e. 2-3 times duirng the 12 day period).  You should be prepared to take overnight call immediately. 

The other half (a maximum of 10 students) participate in small group PBL/case simulation sessions and have the opportunity to read and discuss key articles in critical care.

Groups switch activities mid rotation.  The second group will abide by the same overnight call schedule as the first group.  Students should not be on call the night prior to the final examination

All students meet for weekly lectures (currently on Wednesdays from noon-2 PM in the Gray Conference room, Lurie builidng).
