The Department of Anesthesiology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine offers outstanding three- and four-year residency training programs. Our residents gain clinical experience at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children's Memorial Hospital, Evanston Hospital, and the new Prentice Women's Hospital which will open in October 2007. The McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University provides a rich academic environment in which our faculty and residents actively participate.
Residents will benefit from this exciting time of innovation, growth, and development in the department and at our affiliated institutions. Our department continues to develop research and clinical care programs in many areas such as the neurosciences, pain medicine, obstetric anesthesiology, critical care medicine, cardiac anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, and regional anesthesia. Our excellent educational program is enhanced through our faculty members’ research in educational methods, some of which include simulation. Through the McGaw Medical Center our residents receive broad, comprehensive exposure to practices encompassing all aspects of anesthesiology. They receive instruction and guidance from enthusiastic faculty members with wide-ranging interests and skills.
Graduates of Northwestern's Anesthesiology Residency Program are thriving. Many are in community and academic practices and several of them are either Chairs or Vice-Chairs in major academic departments in the US. Building on more than 40 years of recognized excellence in clinical education, we are confident that our graduates are consummate clinical anesthesiologists, that they fulfill the role of consultant in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, and that they are prepared to assume leadership roles in guiding our exciting and vibrant specialty through the ever-changing health care environment. |
