Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine (NUFSM). Our Department offers outstanding advanced and categorical residency training programs. Our residents gain clinical experience at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the new Prentice Women's Hospital, and Children's Memorial Hospital. We are delighted that Children’s Memorial Hospital will be relocating from its current Lincoln Park location 3 miles northwest of NUFSM to next door to Prentice Women’s Hospital in June 2012. I am proud to be a part of a team of dedicated physicians and educators who have built a premier anesthesia training program at Northwestern University. We are delighted that you are interested in our residency. It will be evident when you visit us that we have thoughtfully constructed a graduate medical education program that will prepare you to become an accomplished anesthesiologist.

The specific elements of anesthesia residency at Northwestern include a clinical caseload that is superb in both volume and complexity and institutional resources to support a thorough, structured didactic program. The ASA endorsed the Northwestern Center for Clinical Simulation to provide simulation courses to ABA Diplomates in order to satisy the Practice Performance Assessment and Improvement requirement for MOCA®.   
The Northwestern Center for Clinical Simulation (NCCS) is an endorsed program of the American Society of Anesthesiologists'
Simulation Education Network.

The Department of Anesthesiology joins 17 other medical centers as being among the first to receive this endorsement. The NCCS will offer simulation training for American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Diplomates seeking to satisfy ABA requirements for Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®). For the December 2011 OpenAnesthesia.org podcast, Christine Park, MD, was interviewed on "Simulation training, undergraduate and graduate medical education." See the video here. Dr. Park was recently appointed to the Editorial Board of OpenAnesthesia.org as Editor for Special Projects.

Congratulations to Gildasio DeOliveira, MD, for his promotion to Associate Chair for Research. Dr. DeOliveira has 20 peer-reviewed articles published/accepted over the course of only two years.
