Types of Aid Offered Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine offers a comprehensive educational financial aid program to students. Students demonstrating financial need are offered assistance. Loan options are also available to students who do not demonstrate financial need.

It is Important to Note: -All loans are subject to final approval by your lender(s) based upon criteria set forth by federal regulations and lender policies. -Graduate Plus and private loans are credit-based. -The specific details of these programs may change at any time due to government legislation/regulation, and/or lender/institutional policy.
NU Grant/Scholarship Programs
The Feinberg School offers a number of need-based grants and merit scholarships to admitted students who meet specific criteria. All students are automatically considered for merit scholarships; those who complete financial aid applications by the deadline will be automatically considered for need-based grants. Feinberg's Scholarship Committee will review the records of all admitted students and make scholarship recommendations as appropriate. Please note there is not a separate application for merit scholarships or need based grant awards. Loan Programs
Federal Loans There are a variety of federal loan options such as Direct Federal Stafford, Federal Perkins Loans and the Direct Grad Plus. The Direct Federal Stafford and the Federal Perkins loan both offer low interest rates and do not require credit checks or collateral. The Direct Grad Plus Loan also offers a low interest rate however this loan DOES require a credit check and a positive credit history. Federal Student loans also provide a variety of deferment options and extended repayment terms. Please note that you must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States to participate in the federal loan programs. Before applying for these loans it is important for you to ensure that you have reviewed all of your federal loan options and eligibility. Federal loans generally have better benefits and lower, fixed interest rates. We encourage you to consider the Federal PLUS/Grad PLUS Loan before applying for a private loan. Borrowers must have a co-signer who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, who resides in the U.S.A and is creditworthy. The co–signer agrees to repay the loan if you fail to do so.
