Psychiatry Clerkship Grading and Evaluation PolicyFinal grades are determined based overall performance on the psychiatry clerkship. Our goal is for all students to become competent in evaluating patients with mental illness.The evaluation is composed of the following components: - Clinical Evaluation (55 points): Students will be evaluated on their clinical performance by teaching attendings and residents with whom they have worked.
- Shelf Exam (25 points): On the last day of the clerkship, students will take a shelf examination provided by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Two hours and thirty minutes are allotted for completion of the exam.
- OSCE (20 points): Students are required to undergo an OSCE exam on the last day of the clerkship. Students will each interview two standardized patients and will then be asked to write a mental status examination and to formulate a differential diagnosis and treatment plan at the computer station. Students will be evaluated by the standardized patients and faculty.
Final grades will be determined by the clerkship director and will awarded based on the following approximate point distribution: Honors 85-100
High Pass 75-84
Pass 50-74
Fail < 50 Individual remediation plans will be developed for students who fail the clerkship. If a student fails the OSCE or shelf exam, they will be required to retake the exam. Students are welcome to meet with the clerkship director to discuss their grades. |
