Financial Aid

Three things you should do before you arrive:

  1. Complete your entrance interview
If you are receiving both a Stafford and Graduate Plus loan(s), you must complete a separate entrance interview for each loan type. Entrance counseling should be completed as soon as your loan is approved so that your loan funds may be credited to your student account.
  2. Prepare to get your refund
  3. Defer your prior student loans

Helpful Tips:

Loan funds disburse on or around the first day of classes so you should be prepared to support yourself financially until loan funds arrive.

The Graduate Plus loan and other private loans require a positive credit history for approval. Make certain you have good credit. The Federal Trade Commission suggests you visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228 to order your free credit report each year.

Be careful how you use your credit cards. Consumer credit is not an investment and cannot be covered by financial aid.

If possible, pay off all your consumer debts (including credit cards) before you start medical school.

Explore external scholarship opportunities through private organizations, foundations, and associations as well as through federal/state/local government agencies. You can also view www.finaid.org and www.fastweb.com which are free sites that provide information regarding various external scholarship opportunities.

Once you are enrolled and attending classes at Feinberg watch for emails from our Student Support Services Coordinator regarding new external scholarship and research opportunities.

Budget your money just as carefully as you budget your time. Use this interactive budgeting tool to assist: http://www.aamc.org/programs/first/facts/budget_worksheet.pdf

Borrow as conservatively as possible. Remember you are responsible for repaying these loans.
