Research Thesis Program

Eligibility

After successful completion of the Medical Student Summer Research Program (MSSRP) or a comparable summer research experience, students will declare their intent to participate in, and formally apply to, the Research Thesis Program at the beginning of the M2 year. Successful applicants will exhibit commitment to medical research and academic excellence, while training in a highly mentored research environment.

Students are eligible to participate in the RTP, if the student:

                1) has successfully completed the first year of medical school.

                2) is in good academic standing.

                3) is not a PhD or MPH candidate and has not already earned these degrees.

                4) has participated satisfactorily in the MSSRP or a comparable summer research experience after the M1 year.

A committee of faculty will evaluate RTP applicants based on: their academic performance during the M1 year, the quality of their research performance during the MSSRP or comparable summer research experience, and the mentored-research activities that are outlined in their RTP application. Students applying for other grants are not exluded from applying to the RTP. Students may apply during their M3 year, with prior approval from the RTP director.
