The Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery Research Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine are under the direction of Surendra Basti, MD, Director of Cataract Service and Professor of Ophthalmology.

Program Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology, at Northwestern University offers a 18 month funded research fellowship, beginning January 2019. Both US and international applicants may apply for the fellowship. Preference will be given to candidates interested in a career track that involves dedicated time for basic science or clinical research in addition to clinical care (Eg. NIH K Award).

The research fellow will actively participate in research projects – plan projects, follow necessary procedures (prepare protocol, apply for IRB approval), execute projects (for prospective studies: track patient arrival dates, ensure procedures for data collection, complete documentation. For retrospective studies: data mining . For both prospective and retrospective studies: data collection, analysis and write up of paper). The fellow will work with faculty to actively seek and collaborate with basic science researchers at Northwestern.

Research fellow will participate in direct patient observation, in clinic and operating room setting. The fellow with coordinate with faculty to present at journal club meetings which will be held quarterly.
