Leadership & Education Program for Students in Integrative Medicine (LEAPS) is an Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health  program. The mission of LEAPS is to enhance the leadership skills and knowledge base of future physician leaders in Integrative Medicine. Twenty (20) medical student leaders are selected to participate in this intensive weeklong retreat led by the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health in collaboration with the American Medical Student Association Foundation To date, more than 200 medical students have enriched their medical education, careers and lives of their patients, by attending this pivotal training program. Past attendees have said that it helped them to believe in medicine and healing again, and gave them a sense of community and purpose in their medical careers.

Reflections from 2016 attendees:

Carla Berkowitz:

“LEAPS is a weeklong conference to learn more about Integrative Medicine and meet medical students from around the country. I found LEAPS to be the perfect addition to our education here at Feinberg— the conference was a time of reflection, education, and connection with like-minded peers. I highly recommend LEAPS to anyone who is interested in prevention and exploring health and wellness from other traditions.”

Max Kazer:

"LEAPS was a fantastic experience that allowed me to cultivate my passion for Integrative Medicine. I gained a new perspective and learned alongside talented students from all over the country at the beautiful San Luis Rey Mission.”

The Humanistic Elective in Activism, Reflective Transformation, and Integrative Medicine (HEART-IM) is a program of the AMSA (American Medical Students Association) provides 25 fourth-year medical students with a unique and rewarding way to conclude their medical school careers and prepare for their future work as healer-physicians. Applicants should have a strong interest in exploring the path of healing within the modern world and medical system. The month-long elective is structured as a group exploration of what it means to be a healer and how we can each work to embody it as we progress in our careers.
