Cancer-Focused Research

The main focus of our laboratory is developing a better understanding of how key mutations in gliomas alter their biological characteristics, and how best to exploit specific weaknesses that such mutations often impart. As the Nervous System Tumor Bank, we also support a variety of projects, from numerous intramural and extramural investigators, through procurement of biospecimens, advanced tissue-based analyses, and molecular diagnostics. Current projects include: 1) The significance of Tissue Factor suppression in reducing the malignant behavior of IDH1 mutant gliomas 2) Serum-based predictive biomarkers of glioma-induced venous thromboemboli 3) The mechanism of tumor-associated epilepsy in IDH1 mutant gliomas 4) Testing of novel therapeutic strategies in preclinical models of meningiomas
