Nikia Laurie Leads Team Looking into New Retinoblastoma Treatments

The most common pediatric eye cancer, retinoblastoma is usually diagnosed in the United States by a child's second birthday and typically results in a loss of sight. In developing nations, the disease is an even greater clinical challenge and the mortality rate is as high as 70 percent.

Lazlo Lorand, PhD, Honored at Biomedical Symposium

A Northwestern University faculty member since 1955, Lorand is credited with promoting cross-campus collaboration between Evanston and the medical school, while making groundbreaking discoveries in the field of blood coagulation.

Piotr Kulesza, MD, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Pathology, and Victor Tsirline, MD, assistant professor of Surgery-Gastrointestinal and Endocrine, both recently passed away. Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 5 and Wednesday, November 27, respectively.
