New ongoing research suggests organ transplant recipients may not require anti-rejection medication in the future thanks to the power of stem cells, which may prove to be able to be manipulated in mismatched kidney donor and recipient pairs to allow for successful transplantation. Joseph R. Leventhal, MD, PhD, transplant surgeon at Northwestern Memorial and associate professor of surgery at Feinberg, authored the study in partnership with University of Louisville researchers.  Read more >

Bulun Named Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Chair

Serdar Bulun, MD, chief of reproductive biology research, has been named the new chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and obstetrician-gynecologist-in-chief at Northwestern Memorial's Prentice Women's Hospital.

Feinberg Rises in National Ranks

The U.S. News & World Report ranking information was released yesterday, and the medical school's place among research-oriented schools increased to 18th.

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare has unveiled plans to open six additional physician offices, one in Chicago and five in the surrounding northern suburbs, this year and early next year. Long-range plans call for having about 100 new primary care physicians and approximately 20 specialists from Northwestern Memorial Physician's Group and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in the new locations.  Read more >
