Diversity & Inclusion

Our Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine community is saddened by the loss of Virginia Bishop, MD, MPH.

Dr. Bishop, as an Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine (Public Health Practice), provided an important service to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, served on the NU FSM Diversity Council, and fulfilled the role of Latino Affairs and Community Engagement Liaison. She also held an appointment in the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM).

She was an advocate for our Latino students, a champion of Latino Culture and an advisor for the Latino Medical Student Association.  She often spoke of her Afro-Latino heritage and previously provided compassionate care in Pediatrics on the West Side of Chicago. She left an indelible mark on our students and inspired all to become their ‘best self’. She was always the bright light in the room; owned an engaging smile; and served as an inspiration for students and faculty alike.

Join us in reflecting on the gifts she shared with us and join us especially in extending our genuine thoughts of comfort and support for her family.

Service for Dr. Bishop
