Open Faculty Positions in the Comprehensive Transplant Center

Assistant or Associate Professor needed:
Full-time researcher and transplant surgeon to join the division’s seven surgeons in an adult and pediatric abdominal multi-organ program based at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Faculty member will serve as director of the Northwestern University Transplant Outcomes Research Consortium. Faculty member will be expected to conduct extensive outcomes and health services research, including research related to patient safety, healthcare disparities among racial and ethnic groups, and quality of life. Conduct clinical research related to liver cancer and transplantation. Apply research results to clinical setting through participation in transplant surgery service call for liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, as well as organ excision from living and deceased donors, vascular access surgery, and hepatobiliary procedures. Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
Requirements: M.D. & MPH. The candidate must have completed a residency training program in general surgery, and must have completed a two-year ASTS-accredited clinical fellowship in adult and pediatric abdominal organ transplantation and at least one-year post-fellowship work as an attending transplant surgeon. Successful candidates must have training in epidemiology and transplant surgery. Fellowship, graduate education, and significant experience in surgical outcomes research and biostatistics are required. Must have experience in process and systems research and quality of life research. The candidate must also have experience leading a multi-disciplinary research group and must be experienced with both adult and pediatric liver, pancreas, and kidney transplantation, including laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy and live-donor liver transplantation. Candidate must be board-certified in general surgery. Hiring is contingent upon holding a medical license in the State of Illinois. Salary: $250,000-$350,000, commensurate with qualifications.

Full-time researcher and transplant surgeon to join the division’s seven surgeons in an adult and pediatric abdominal multi-organ program based at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Faculty member will serve as director of vascular access surgery and head of the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Committee. Faculty member will be expected to conduct extensive outcomes and health services research, including research examining the comparative effectiveness of renal replacement therapies. Performs clinical research related to kidney, liver, and pancreas transplantation, including transplantation immunobiology and the impact of expanded use of deceased-donor organs. Use extensive knowledge of risk adjustment methodologies currently being employed by SRTR, demonstrate ability to augment or enhance risk adjustment to better assess transplant center performance (i.e., improve data, refine modeling), and develop transplant surgery risk adjustment model, including risks associated with cardiovascular disease. Apply research results in clinical setting through participation in adult and pediatric transplant surgery service call for liver, kidney, pancreas, and small intestine transplantation. Perform organ excision from both living and deceased adult and pediatric donors. Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
Requirements: M.D. & Ph.D. in Immunology. Candidate must have completed a residency training program in general surgery, and must have completed a two-year ASTS-accredited clinical fellowship in abdominal organ transplantation and at least three years post-fellowship experience as an attending transplant surgeon. Significant experience performing vascular access procedures, adult and pediatric abdominal organ transplant procedures, minimally invasive approaches to live donor and hepatobiliary procedures, and pre- and post-transplant management of donors and recipients. Candidate must have significant experience in outcomes and health services research including risk adjustment and decision analysis methodologies. Experience required in clinical research related to transplant immunobiology. Candidate must be board-certified in general surgery and meet the UNOS requirements for primary transplant surgeon in both adult and pediatric kidney and liver transplantation.  Hiring is contingent upon holding a medical license in the State of Illinois. Salary: $250,000-$350,000, commensurate with qualifications.
