Students interact directly with attending surgeons and senior residents in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Typically, in house call is taken once a week. This elective is recommended for those students contemplating a career in neurosurgery as it provides a unique look inside a high-volume, cutting edge neurosurgical residency program.
Students are expected to attend the weekly Academic Day held on Friday. Required conferences include Grand Rounds, Journal Club and residency teaching conferences.
In the clinical setting, the student will demonstrate maturation of skills in the following areas:
- Evaluation of patients
- Interpretation of imaging studies
- Formulation of differential diagnosis
- Implementation of diagnostic and treatment plans
- Participation in the operating room and Neuro-ICU
Requirements & Eligibility
Students must meet the criteria established by Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine’s Office of Education.
