All education session are hosted at the Robert R. McCormick Boys & Girls Club in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago.
Introductory Session. Students and mentors will get a chance to know each other and play Jeopardy!
Introduction to Patient. Students will interview a “patient” who recently passed out during a basketball game.
Lab-based exercises. Students will use hands-on activities to learn how to evaluate the function of a patient’s heart.
Presentations and Summary. Students will work with mentors to research and report on information relevant to a certain aspect of the patient’s case, and mentors will present a summary of the case with a final diagnosis. A guest cardiologist will be present to talk to the students about treatment options for the patient.
Career-based session. Students will meet experts from various careers in health and science. Students will also have time to work with their mentors to discuss their career paths and plans for after high school.
Field Trip. Students will visit the anatomy labs at Northwestern!
