Speaker Biography

Edward N. Siskel was appointed the City of Chicago's Corporation Counsel in February 2017. In that position, he is Mayor Rahm Emanuel's senior legal adviser and supervises the City's 450-person Law Department, comprised of approximately 270 lawyers who handle every aspect of municipal law and who represent the City in litigation, transactional matters and prosecute municipal code violations.

Prior to his appointment as Chicago's Corporation Counsel, Mr. Siskel was a partner with the law firm of WilmerHale, where he handled complex federal and state court litigation, crisis management, and government enforcement matters for corporate and individual clients. In that role, Mr. Siskel advised senior management at corporate clients on a range of high-stakes Department of Justice, Congressional and Inspector General investigations, and provided strategic counseling on regulatory and enforcement issues.

Before joining WilmerHale, Mr. Siskel served in a series of senior positions in the federal government. From 2010 to 2014, Mr. Siskel served in President Obama's White House Counsel's Office, including as Deputy White House Counsel, where he managed the Executive Branch's response to Congressional and other investigations, and advised senior White House officials on a broad scope of compliance and risk management issues. From 2009 to 2010, Mr. Siskel served as Associate Deputy Attorney General, where he handled a range of criminal justice policy and enforcement matters. From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Siskel was an Assistant United States Attorney in Chicago where he handled grand jury investigations and criminal jury trials involving violent crime, financial fraud and public corruption.

Mr. Siskel received his law degree from The University of Chicago and his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University. After graduating from law school, Mr. Siskel served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Dorothy Nelson.
