A Place of Discovery

From the building’s groundbreaking ceremony on April 20, 2001, to its dedication four years later on April 21, 2005, the excitement has mounted. The completion of this facility celebrates the Feinberg School’s success to date. Great strides have been made in Northwestern’s research enterprise. Within the past six years, the medical school’s research funding from the National Institutes of Health has increased by 88 percent.

Tangible evidence of the Feinberg School’s goal to be counted among the nation’s top research-intensive medical schools, the new facility has the capacity to further expand the school’s research enterprise. The building has been designed to accommodate a 15-story tower, built over the first floor loading dock, that would contribute 195,680 gross square feet of additional laboratory space.

An investment in research excellence, the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research center will advance 21st century medicine for generations of patients. The scientists working in the building will provide the foundation for innovative treatments and therapies applied in clinical settings. In an environment designed for discovery, the Feinberg School is set to achieve important scientific advancements.
