Copyright Policy
Northwestern University upholds the principle that our faculty retain copyright ownership for traditional works created by the faculty, such as books, films, musical scores, and other works of art. A group of faculty from throughout the University community created the copyright policy with that principle in mind. In addition to traditional works, the creators of the policy provided for the University to share in the benefits of copyrightable software when the University provides extraordinary resource support for the development of the software and when research sponsors assign the copyright to the University.

Technology Transfer Program

Technology Transfer is responsible for implementing the Patent and Invention Policy for Northwestern University, and fostering the transfer of novel technologies from the University to industry to introduce new products in the market for public benefit.
Faculty Affairs
The Faculty Affairs Office coordinates the recruitment, appointment and promotion process for regular faculty, research faculty and research staff.
Effort Reporting
Effort reporting is managed through ASRSP and the Controller’s Office, with input from OSR. As a recipient of significant external funding, the University must assure Federal and other sponsors that the assignment of time and associated salary and fringe benefit costs to the projects they sponsor is fair, consistent, and timely. The University fulfills this responsibility through effort reporting. Effort reporting is required of nearly all exempt faculty and staff in departments with sponsored funding.

Standards for Faculty Advancement
To be successful, the Medical School must have a faculty that excels in research, education, and professional service. Full-time faculty members will be evaluated for promotion, and in two of the four career tracks for tenure, by four sets of standards. These standards are designed to recognize and reward faculty performance and career growth in the four areas important to the school: research; education; clinical and community service; and professional leadership. Emphasis should be placed on the quality, while considering the quantity, of faculty scholarship, teaching, and professional accomplishment.
Visualization Services Group of Academic and Research Technologies (A&RT, NUIT)
Assists researchers in achieving their scientific goals by bridging the gap between concept and implementation with visualizations techniques. Our professional staff has the expertise to engineer volume renderers across a wide range of disciplines; architect interactive and off-line visualization applications for the fields of biology, psychology, math and computer science, among others; and support the design and creation of computer animated features that enable Northwestern researchers to communicate ideas to non-expert audiences.
