Anatomical Gifts
An anatomical gift is the donation of an individual’s body to medical science after death. Donation of one’s body provides an opportunity for future health professionals to study human anatomy and develop an appreciation of the form, function and beauty of the human body.

The Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois is the authorized representative of all medical schools within the State of Illinois. As such, its sole function is to procure, prepare, preserve, and distribute bodies for medical study.  The first priority of the AGA is to provide bodies for the anatomical education of medical and dental students, and students in allied health programs.  Bodies are also provided for training on new surgical procedures.

A donor may request that their body go to Northwestern University and the AGA will try to meet the donor's request.  More times than not, the AGA of Illinois is able to comply with the request, but they DO NOT guarantee that they can meet the request nor can they tell the family or next of kin if the body is at a particular school while the body is still in use. If asked, they will inform them that a particular body went to NU, University of Chicago, Rush, etc., after the family has received the ashes.  Please visit the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for more information.
