William Schnaper, MD, received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his medical degree from the University of Maryland. He was resident and chief resident in pediatrics at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, followed by service as a pediatrician in the National Health Service Corps in Chester, Pennsylvania. From 1980-90 he was a postdoctoral fellow and then a faculty member in pediatric nephrology at Washington University in St. Louis, where he studied the cellular basis of immune abnormalities in patients with minimal change nephrotic syndrome. In 1990 he joined the laboratory of Hynda Kleinman at the National Institute of Dental Research, where he studied cell-matrix interactions and extracellular matrix protease biology. In 1994, he joined the faculties of Northwestern University Medical School (now the Feinberg School of Medicine) and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Schnaper is presently professor of pediatrics and vice chair of the Department of Pediatrics. His research interests concern the cellular and molecular mechanisms of progressive kidney disease, with an emphasis on cell signal transduction in renal fibrosis. |
