Xiaoying Liu, PhD, received her BS degree in Biochemistry from Nankai University, China in 2002. From 2003-2009, she worked with Dr. Arthur Strauch at The Ohio State University as a graduate research associate to study the regulation of smooth muscle α-actin gene expression as a myofibroblast activation marker. She also investigated the molecular mechanisms by which pro-inflammatory cytokine TNFα limits TGFβ1-induced pulmonary myofibroblast activation. After receiving her doctoral degree, Xiaoying joined Dr. Schaper’s laboratory as a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the role of adaptor proteins, Dab2 and Axin, in modulating TGFβ signaling during epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in renal fibrosis.
