Division of Gynecologic Oncology

The Gynecologic Oncology Service includes physicians, nurses, scientists, and nurse practitioners working together in a multidisciplinary setting to provide excellence in patient care and cancer research. Services for the evaluation and treatment of premalignant and invasive cancer of the ovary, cervix, endometrium, and vulva are provided by Julian C. Schink, MD, John R. Lurain, MD, Barbara M. Buttin, MD, M. Patrick Lowe, MD and Diljeet Singh, MD, DrPH.

Research in the clinical and molecular aspects of gynecologic cancer are pivotal to our mission. The Northwestern Ovarian Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Program has been established for patients and relatives with a family history of ovarian cancer. The Brewer Trophoblastic Disease Center supports research and care for individuals with gestational trophoblastic disease. Research scientists pursue investigations in the areas of cancer cell invasion and metastasis, human papillomavirus carcinogenesis, and DNA methylation regulation of gene expression. Patients with invasive cancers have access to select clinical trials sponsored by the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), Eastern Oncology Cooperative Group (ECOG), and institutional trials at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
