| Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology that focuses on the management of high-risk pregnancies. An MFM specialist has received two to three years of additional education and training to gain special competence in various obstetrical, medical, and surgical complications of pregnancy. This training and technical proficiency enables the specialist to provide the extra care or consultation required for both mother and fetus in complicated obstetric situations. Division Activities
Prentice Women’s Hospital is also a Level III Perinatal facility and a member institution of the Northwestern Perinatal Network. The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine is a participant in the NICHD-sponsored MFM Units Network. This national network of 14 sites consists of faculty and staff members who perform multi-center randomized clinical trials on new treatments and approaches to care for high-risk conditions of pregnancy.
