Residency Program Application Information
The Department of Neurological Surgery receives applications from an average of 195 outstanding students annually. From this applicant pool, 2 to 3 residency positions are filled each year. Applications must be submitted through the AAMC/ERAS application system. Applications to our program will be accepted beginning September 1, 2010.
Information on how to apply and criteria for the applications can be obtained from:
www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm
For all technical questions, contact the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Interview Process
Each application received is reviewed by the program director, an attending and a resident who have been selected for this process.
Applications are screened with attention paid to:
- performance during the preclinical and clinical years
- letters of recommendation
- personal statement
The screening process does not consider gender, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, ethnic origin, economic status, surname, veteran status or place of residence.
The residency coordinator notifies each applicant selected by e-mail. Dates for interviews are provided in the e-mail. Candidates should notify the residency coordinator of their desired interview date either by email or phone.
Our program offers three interview dates a year. The interview day is structured to provide candidates with the background of our program, tour of the facilities, meeting with the Chairman and Program Director, dedicated time with the residents, and interviews with our attending physicians and senior level residents.
