What is a clinical research study?

Clinical research involves the use of human volunteers to assess and evaluate an intervention.  Often people attribute clinical research to clinical drug trials where individuals are given a study drug and are placed in a treatment group to assess the safety and effectiveness of the drug.  However, not all clinical research involves the study of a drug or device in humans.  Many of our clinical studies ask that our volunteers donate time for diagnostic procedures, questionnaires, and specimen collection with out having to participate in experimental treatments or interventions.  Always read your informed consent to get more information about what kind of study you are interested in pursuing.   We are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have and remember there is no harm in learning more about a study.  You will never be pressured to participate in a study.    ...return to top

Will I be compensated for my time?

Many of our studies have monetary compensation for those who qualify.  For more information about reimbursement, please go to your informed consent.  Informed consents can be found under the current studies tab on the home page of this website.  Please go to current studies for more information.   ...return to top

What is the time commitment? ...

Time commitment often depends on the type of study.  Most of our basic clinical research studies involve a one time study visit lasting about 3.5hrs.  Drug trials may require a commitment anywhere from 3 months to 1 year and may involve 1-2 visits to the clinic a month.  Again, your informed consent will provide information about time commitment and length of visit.   return to top
