What is the reason for doing this study?

This research study is being done because we still do not understand well how the body defends itself from influenza (flu) infection and why some people have mild infections and other have bad “flu’s”. We are doing research to find out why some people are more susceptible to the flu than others.

You are asked to take part in this study because you have had the flu in the past or you have an active flu infection.

Approximately 80 adults will take part in this study.

What you will do if you choose to be in this study?

As a subject in this study, you will be asked to come to the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Clinical Research Unit (AAICRU), located in room 18-289 on the 18th floor of the Galter Pavilion, 675 N. Saint Clair St., Chicago, IL 60611; or the Northwestern University Health Service Center located in the Searle Building at 633 Emerson St., Evanston, IL 60208.
