Welcome To New IGP Students

Many IGP students live in the area that spans the north end of Lincoln Park up to Wrigleyville, between the streets of Diversey and Irving Park. If you plan to get an apartment away from school, public transportation is something to look at to get to and from campus. The two best ways are via the Red Line L and the Lake Shore Dr. buses (145, 146, and 151). Students who live greater than 2 miles from campus can get generally NU parking for about $438 per year. A number of students live downtown by the school and love the convenience, but may pay more money for less space.

We have put together different websites that may be helpful in locating an apartment in Chicago.

This free newspaper has the largest listing of places to live. This site has an interactive search that allows you to choose an apartment size, neighborhood, and maximum and minimun rent. Chicago Reader also contains a lot of other things about Chicago.

Apartment People

http://www.apartmentpeople.com/

This is a good website to help find an apartment. The FAQ section on this site is really good. This group is also the best place to go to if you visit Chicago and want to find an apartment during your stay. They will drive you around and can usually get a place that day. This also gives a good description of the neighborhoods.

Chicago Apartment Finders

http://www.chicagoapartmentfinders.com/

Reported by first year IGP student (2004) to be much better than Apartment People. Also good for browsing online before people come to town.

Apartmentzone

This site has maps to the property listed as well as pictures (sometimes).
