The IGP Curricula
Areas of Research and Academic Specialization

The IGP groups its faculty and course offerings into nine areas of specialization known as "curricula". These divisions provide a convenient means for potential applicants to identify the faculty who are conducting research in readily identified fields of study. The interdisciplinary nature of modern research, however, means that most faculty are listed in multiple curricula, so applicants are encouraged to examine the faculty lists broadly.

Each curriculum also provides a suggested set of courses that will provide a solid foundation in that area of specialization. Students entering the IGP are asked to indicate the curriculum that most closely meets their personal interests. Each student is then assigned an initial academic advisor based on their curricular choice.

It is important to note that the choice of a particular curriculum does not restrict a student to any one department, to any particular set of faculty, or to any prescribed course list. IGP students are encouraged and advised to tailor their choices for course work, lab rotations, and especially the thesis advisor to suit their individual research and academic interests.
