DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY

Developmental Biology Faculty and Research Interests

The Developmental Biology Program is for students with interests in cell growth control and development. Development is studied at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels in nematodes, flies, amphibians, chickens, mice, rats, and humans. Several faculty members are part of the Markey Center for Developmental Biology. Research programs studying transgenic and knockout mice utilize the Northwestern University Transgenic Facility.

Program of Study

After developing a strong foundation in modern biology through the IGP core courses, students entering the developmental curriculum can receive further training in Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Cell Biology.

Developmental Biology Courses

Dev Bio courses: Developmental Biology
Electives: Appropriate electives include, but are not limited to Genetics, Eukaryotic Molecular Biology, Tumor Cell Biology, Molecular Basis of Carcinogenesis, and Receptors and Effectors.
