Selection Procedures

Since the HPME accepts a limited number of students, only those who demonstrate superior high school achievement and academic aptitude and who apply directly from high school are considered.

If you wish to apply to the HPME you must submit an HPME Application Request by December 1. The form should include accurate information about your academic performance and SAT Reasoning Test and/or ACT Plus Writing scores.  You must take any SAT Subject tests no later than December and request that the scores be forwarded to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.  Based on that information, the Screening Committee will notify you whether an HPME application will be sent.  Only strong candidates for the limited number of places will receive HPME applications.  Other applicants will be encouraged to apply to the Weinberg College, School of Communication, McCormick School, or other undergraduate schools at Northwestern.

HPME applicants must also apply for freshman admission (Regular Decision).  Northwestern University accepts either the Common Application and required Supplement to the Common Application (available from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Northwestern University, P.O. Box 3060, Evanston, Illinois 60204-3060) or Northwestern's online institutional application.  Complete information about applying, including links to the Common Application, the Supplement to the Common Application and the Northwestern University's online application are available at www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/freshman/applying.  The deadline for applying to Northwestern regardless of application type is January 1.
