Northwestern Celebrates Its Emeriti Faculty and PhysiciansIntroduced by Arvydas Vanagunas, MD, as those who had “served with distinction,” the emeriti faculty and physicians emeriti of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital were honored at a luncheon on September 22. More than 100 esteemed physicians and researchers gathered together to hear a special program featuring both Dean Harrison, President and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, and J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, Vice President for Medical Affairs and Lewis Landsberg Dean of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Following a networking reception and a warm welcome by Dr. Vanagunas, Chief of Staff at the hospital, and Jeffrey Glassroth, MD, Vice Dean and Chief Academic Officer at the medical school, those in attendance enjoyed a luncheon in the Harris Family Foundation Atrium in the Prentice Women's Hospital on the medical campus. | | Honored guests enjoyed a luncheon in Prentice Women's Hospital. |
At the start of the program, Mr. Harrison described how a newly strengthened partnership between Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Feinberg School of Medicine would undoubtedly increase the recognition of both institutions as a great academic medical center. According to Mr. Harrison, by working together in an increasingly strategic manner, these well established and revered institutions would better be able to advance their joint clinical and academic missions. Dr. Jameson also described the importance of the Northwestern collaboration and its critical role in fulfilling the institutions’ obligations to continue their high standards of excellence in medical education, research, and patient care for the next generation. “This is an investment in our future, which will accelerate our pace of growth and pursuit of excellence,” he shared. In addition to a greater description of the medical school and hospital’s collaboration, those in attendance were the first to learn about Northwestern Memorial HealthCare’s new affiliation with Lake Forest Hospital. Reacting positively to this “insider information,” the emeriti in attendance were then offered the opportunity to ask questions about how this new affiliation might affect Northwestern, and what other plans were in development to further improve the opportunities available to medical students and the care available for patients at all of the hospitals under the umbrella of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare.
