Donor Emily Hoffman Supports Feinberg with Proceeds from CookbookA dollop of hardship, a dash of trying times, and a heaping portion of love. Life is a mix of lemons and lemonade and you can't enjoy the cherries without the pits. Food plays a role in many and varied metaphors for life, a thought Emily Hoffman likely recognized when she began gathering recipes for her new cookbook, A Blending of Bittersweet Memories. Dedicated to all of those people who have lost their parent and/or loved one to cancer, the book will be a compilation of bittersweet memories in conjunction with a specific recipe. "All of the traditional recipes that have departed with our loved ones will now be remembered indefinitely." On January 23, 2006, Emily Hoffman lost her mother, Renée Israel, to a long, hard-fought battle against breast cancer. Since then, when it was formed by David Israel and his daughters, Ivy, Jamie, and Emily in memory of their late wife and mother—the Renee Israel Foundation has contributed annually to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. A portion of the proceeds from this new cookbook also will be donated to advance breast cancer research at the Lurie Cancer Center.
