Goombay Bash Wows Again! The H Foundation—founded ten years ago in LaGrange, Illinois—is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. A small group of friends with entrepreneurial spirits decided they could make a difference, and so launched the foundation and its annual fundraiser, the Goombay Bash. Now one of the largest fundraising events in Chicago, the Goombay Bash is a Caribbean-themed party with silent and live auctions, and bountiful food, drinks, and entertainment. Proceeds from the event benefit basic science cancer research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, allowing physician-scientists to pursue novel ideas to detect cancer earlier and with greater precision. These ideas are built into a portfolio of research knowledge that is used to compete for grants from other foundations and governmental organizations like the National Institutes of Health. The “seed money” provided each year by the H Foundation leads to millions of dollars in additional funding, advancing the Lurie Cancer Center’s continued fight to cure cancer. Mr. John Rot, chairman of the H Foundation, exclaimed, “Our tenth year party broke an all-time fundraising record. Thank you to the thousands who supported our cause and donated to the Goombay Bash. It was a memorable evening, with extremely remarkable results!” Congratulations to the H Foundation for raising more than $575,000 for cancer research at the most recent Goombay Bash! The Foundation was recently featured in Home Furnishings News (HFN) online magazine for their excellent work on behalf of physician-scientists, patients, and families alike. |
