On Thursday, April 30, leaders of the Northwestern community, family, and friends gathered to celebrate the 97th birthday of Mrs. Ruth Dunbar Davee, an extraordinary philanthropist and alumna of Northwestern University. For several decades, Mrs. Davee and her late husband Ken Davee have supported the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Children's Memorial Hospital through The Davee Foundation. In 1999, they set an exciting precedent naming the Ken and Ruth Davee Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurological Sciences—the first named department at the medical school. At the celebration, featuring a saxophone quintet performance by Bienen School of Music students, Dr. J. Larry Jameson, vice president for medical affairs and Lewis Landsberg Dean, heralded Mrs. Davee as an incredible leader. "Your support of the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Children's Memorial Hospital are legendary. We are delighted to have you on campus to share another birthday celebration with you and your friends," said Dean Jameson.Joined by School of Music Dean Toni-Marie Montgomery, Dean Harrison of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, Dr. Leon Epstein of Children's Memorial Hospital, and Dr. John Kessler, Ken and Ruth Davee Professor of Stem Cell Biology and chair of the Davee Department, Dr. Jameson led all in attendance to raise their glasses in a toast to this remarkable philanthropist, "To Ruth!"
