I am the director for development for Northwestern Medicine and the vice dean for Development & Alumni Relations. I am a pediatric nephrologist and immunologist who was on the medical faculty at Stanford for 23 years and served as deputy director for the National Institutes of Health in charge of the Office of Portfolio Analysis and Strategic Initiatives.

My role is to serve all Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine alumni (MD, GME, fellowship, MSTP, PT, and MPH), and act as the main medical school alumni relations point of contact. I work to foster participation in alumni activities (both on campus and around the country), and to encourage, facilitate, and share news about our alumni and their accomplishments, while offering opportunities for volunteer activities such as mentoring, class reunions, and fundraising efforts. My goal is to meet and interact regularly with all interested alumni to hear ideas, get feedback, and inspire them to stay connected with their medical school alma mater.

Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University and, more recently, with our Cancer Institutes and Heart Institutes at Northwestern Medicine.  I am skilled in major, principal, and planned gift fundraising, building relationships, developing support, and directing volunteers to achieve institutional goals in advocacy and fund development.  I embrace my Midwestern roots from my birthplace in Indianapolis to the excitement of living and working in the great city of Chicago, including a passion for Big Ten college football.

New to the Feinberg School of Medicine, I have returned to Chicago after ten years in Los Angeles and Houston, where I served as senior director of development for the UCLA Hospital System and the Memorial Hermann Health System. I am a passionate advocate for faculty, donors, and academic medical centers, and consider the goals and priorities of each when helping to realize the greatest philanthropic impact toward the advancement of medical education, research, and clinical care. I work with major, principal, and planned gift donors with interests in a variety of Feinberg program areas, and have a primary focus in the Department of Urology and men’s health.

I oversee the alumni relations team, the annual giving team, and our major gift officers, specializing in principal, major gift, and estate gift fundraising. Additional responsibilities include staffing the medical school dean at national events, working with the vice dean for education on educational funding priorities, directing Feinberg’s faculty campaign, and acting as a liaison to the Evanston central major gift officer and planned giving teams. Prior to joining Northwestern in 2008, I have held executive-level positions in the hospitality, recruiting, and distribution fields. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I attended Miami University in Ohio and completed post-graduate work at Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.

As a member of the donor relations team, I am responsible for writing scholarship stewardship reports for both our endowed and expendable scholarships, and keeping track of all our scholarship recipients and their donors. I also manage the alumni association Facebook and LinkedIn pages, as well as our annual Commitment to Scholarships Luncheon in the spring. I have been with the Feinberg School of Medicine for over 20 years in various roles and departments from urology to finance, with Development & Alumni Relations being my favorite so far.

My background includes a master’s degree in social work from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Loyola University. My social work experience includes leading group therapy for high school children in the Bronx and assisting children, who are medically fragile, to cope with their illness and communicate successfully with their family members. I have a passion for education, philanthropy, and social programs, and am proud to be a part of the esteemed development group at Feinberg.

My purpose is to bring together donors and our doctors in order to generate major philanthropic support for a number of vital medical priorities. Specifically, I support five important areas of specialty: the Institute for Public Health and Medicine, the NU Clinical and Translational Institute, the Center for Genetic Medicine, the Department of Otolaryngology, and the Department of Radiology.
